日本人初のベートーヴェン全ピアノ独奏作品録音の完結と長年の演奏活動に対し、2014年にミュージック・ペンクラブ音楽賞を受賞した山根弥生子。音楽批評家たちも瞠目する山根の、ALM RECORDSでの16枚目のアルバムとなる本盤には、学習者にもお馴染みのヘ長調のソナタK.332をはじめとして、愛らしさが印象に残るハ長調のソナタK.330などソナタ4曲とアダージョ ロ短調 K.540など、特に人気の高い作品を収録。加えて山根らしい選曲として、クラリネット五重奏 イ長調 K.581終楽章の主題を用いた珍しい変奏曲 K.Anh.137も収録している。
数多あるモーツァルト作品の中でも特別な美を誇るシンプルな作品群が、経験豊富な山根の演奏によって、深みと生彩を与えられる。

山根弥生子（ピアノ）
パリ国立音楽院でラザール・レヴィに師事。1953年プルミエ・プリを得てピアノ科卒業。その後チューリッヒ、ベルリン、モスクワでそれぞれマックス・エッガー、ヘルムート・ロロフ、ヤコブ・フリエールのもとで研鑽。1958年マリア・カナルス国際コンクール第一位。1960年日本でデビュー以来、国内外で絶え間なく演奏活動を続けて今日にいたる。1970年と77年には東京でベートーヴェンの全32曲のピアノ・ソナタ連続演奏会を開き高い評価を得る。海外の演奏はフランス、イタリア、スイス、ドイツ、チェコ、スロヴァキア、ポーランド、ルーマニア、ブルガリア、ユーゴスラヴィア、ロシア、中国に及ぶ。レパートリーは古典、ロマン派から現代に及び、特に海外では日本の作品の演奏にも力を入れ、牧野由多可のピアノ協奏曲第２番、「浄瑠璃幻想」、宍戸睦郎のピアノ協奏曲第２番等を世界初演した他、松平頼則の「主題と変奏」も演奏している。国内のほとんどの主要オーケストラと共演し、国外でも多くの大都市のオーケストラ、旧レニングラードフィル（指揮アルヴィド・ヤンソンス）、ベルリン交響楽団（指揮クルト・ザンデルリング）、ゲヴァントハウス管弦楽団（指揮ヴァーツラフ・ノイマン）、ドレスデン・フィル（指揮クルト・マズア）等と共演。協奏曲のレパートリーは40数曲に及ぶ。1975年度福山賞受賞。2013年、日本人初のベートーヴェン全ピアノ独奏作品録音を完結。2014年、第26回ミュージック・ペンクラブ音楽賞（独奏・独唱部門賞）受賞。

Yaeko Yamane (piano)
Yaeko Yamane studied with Lazare Lévy at the Paris Conservatory, graduating in 1953 after being awarded the Premier Prix, and subsequently continued her studies in Zurich with Max Egger, in Berlin with Helmut Roloff, and in Moscow with Yakov Vladimirovich Flier. Yaeko won 1st Prize in the Maria Canals International Music Competition in 1958. Since her Japanese debut in 1960, Yaeko has tirelessly pursued a performing career both in Japan and around the world. She performed highly acclaimed cycles of the complete Beethoven Sonatas in Tokyo in 1970 and 1977, and has given concerts in France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Russia and China. Yaeko’s repertoire stretches from the Classical and Romantic periods to the present, with particular effort being expended on introducing foreign audiences to new Japanese compositions, such as Tema e Varie by Yoritsuné Matsudaïra. Her world premiere performances include the Second Piano Concerto and Fantasy of Joruri by Yutaka Makino, and the Second Piano Concerto by Mutsuo Shishido. Yaeko has performed with nearly all the major Japanese orchestras and important foreign orchestras including the Leningrad Philarmonic Orchestra under Arvid Jansons, the Berlin Symphony under Kurt Sanderling, the Leipzig Gewandhaus under Václav Neumann, and the Dresden Philharmonic under Kurt Masur. Yaeko has over forty concertos in her repertoire. She was awarded the Fukuyama Prize in 1975 and is the first Japanese artist to record the complete works for piano solo by Beethoven.
